Travel Advisory: Covid-19

Last Updated: June 21, 2021

Need help with travel plans impacted by COVID-19? Below is information on planning, booking, changing or cancelling your upcoming travel plan:

I am planning to travel or currently travelling

Please note, due to Covid-19, the Government of Canada has introduced specific travel requirements. Before you make your travel arrangement or board your flight to Canada, please visit Government of Canada website for more information. For RBC clients who booked travel through RBC Rewards and require changes, please follow the instructions under “Cancellation, change and insurance policies”.

Book a flight using an airline travel credit

If you have an airline credit due to a flight cancellation and would like to make a new booking, please call the RBC Rewards Travel Call Centre at 1-877-636-2870.
Please have the following information on hand:

  • Itinerary number of the original booking
  • Travel credit amount
  • Traveler name(s)
  • Detail of the new flight you would like to book-to ensure we can provide you with the most expedited service, we encourage you to search for and have the exact details of your preferred flight options ready prior to calling.

Due to COVID-19, airlines have reduced routes and capacity. Routes and departure times that were previously available prior to March 2020 may not be available today. Please note that flight availability is up to date online and agents at RBC Rewards Travel do not have access to additional inventory.

In some instances when using an airline travel credit for a ticket to a destination in a different jurisdiction or region from the original booking, you may incur additional taxes and fees. Applying the credit to a new set of taxes and fees can vary based on airline policy and the payment of taxes and fees from different jurisdictions and regions may not be interchangeable with the taxes and fees on the original ticket. Even when the value of the new ticket is less than the value of the airline travel credit, if the taxes and fees on the new ticket is not interchangeable with the old ticket, you may be required to pay the taxes and fees on the new ticket. This is not an error and our agents cannot waive these taxes and fees.

  • Each airline sets their own policy for how you can redeem your credit
  • Some airlines may require you to use the entire credit value at one time; otherwise you won’t receive the full value. Please contact RBC Rewards Travel Call centre at 1-877-636-28701-877-636-2870 for more information
  • You must use airline credits (including taxes and fees) for air travel with the airline that originally issued the ticket. Airline credits cannot be used for other services such as checked bags, upgrades, etc.
  • Each airline credit is in the original traveler’s name; you can’t combine airline credits or transfer them to another person
  • Airline credits have a travel-by date (sometimes called credit validity)
  • When Planning to travel, please check your airline’s website for possible changes to your flight experience and any new passenger requirements. Many airlines are making temporary changes to prioritize traveler safety

We are currently processing refunds for clients who have received a travel credit for Air Canada (include Air Canada Vacation) and Air Transat (including Air Transat Tours) who meet Air Canada’s and Air Transat’s Covid-19 refund policies. We do not require any additional information or action from clients to process these refunds. We are working quickly with Air Canada and Air Transat to process refunds and will reach out to all eligible clients directly. Given the high volume of refunds we expect that it will take some time for us to process the refund requests and for clients to receive their refunds. We ask for your patience as we work through the high volume of refunds.

Clients who are eligible for a refund will receive the refund in the form of the original payment method used for the booking (for example, if the flight was booked using RBC Rewards points, these points will be added to the client’s RBC Rewards account and if a credit card was used, a credit will be issued to the booking credit card).

If you and your friend/family member booked the same itinerary through separate RBC Rewards accounts, they may not be processed simultaneously due to the high volume of refunds. We ask for your patience as we work through the high volume of refunds.

If you have multiple bookings, they may not all be processed at the same time. We ask for your patience as we work through the high volume of refunds.
