RBC Rewards® Terms & Conditions

  1. What The Words Mean:

    “I”, “me” and “my” mean (i) the Personal Applicant for a Personal Account, and (ii) the Primary Business Cardholder(s) of a CLSB Account or a Business Avion Account; and “the Bank”, “you” and “your” mean Royal Bank of Canada;

    “Account” means the RBC® Visa Infinite Avion®, RBC Royal Bank® Visa Platinum Avion, RBC Visa Infinite, RBC Rewards Visa Preferred, Signature® RBC Rewards Visa, RBC Rewards Visa Gold, RBC Rewards Visa Classic, RBC Royal Bank U.S. Dollar Visa Gold, RBC Royal Bank Visa Classic II Student, RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion or RBC Royal Bank Visa CreditLine for Small Business (“CLSB”) account;

    “Account in Good Standing” means an Account that is not more than two (2) consecutive Account Statement periods past due and is not closed, charged off or in credit revoked status, all according to your credit risk policies that may change from time to time;

    “Account Statement” means the paper or electronic statement of the Account that you prepare approximately every four (4) weeks (the period covered by each Account Statement will vary between twenty-seven (27) days and thirty-four (34) days) and, for RBC Visa Infinite Accounts only, the paper-year-end summary of the Account charges, broken down by spend categories, you will send me in February of each year;

    “Air Travel Reward” means airline travel booked at least fourteen (14) days in advance of departure and redeemed from the Redemption Schedule, as set out in Section 16, and which is only available to Personal Avion and Business Avion cardholders, as well as to clients who hold other eligible RBC Royal Bank products or services that earns RBC Rewards points, as per the RBC Rewards in Banking Terms and Conditions (opens new window);

    “Application” means the request made to you for the Account and Card(s);

    “Authorized User” means an individual, other than the Personal Applicant and the Co-Applicant, to whom you have issued a Card on my Personal Account at my request or at the request of the Co-Applicant;

    “Business Account” means either the RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion or CLSB account;

    “Business Applicant” means the person or entity which has submitted an Application for a Business Account;

    “Business Avion” means the RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion Account/Card;

    “Card” means any credit card you issue on an Account and all renewals of and replacements for that credit card;

    “Cardholder” means an individual to whom you have issued a Card;

    “Cash Advance” means an advance of cash that is charged to the Account with or in connection with the Card including, but not limited to, RBC Royal Bank credit card cheques, balance transfers, certain bill payments and Cash-Like Transactions;

    “Cash-Like Transactions” means transactions that involve the purchase of items that are similar to or easily converted to cash and that you designate for treatments as Cash Advances;

    “Charity Reward” means redemption of Points as a charitable donation to the Canadian Olympic Foundation’s “Own the Podium” campaign, “Hope Air” and such other registered charitable organizations as you may designate from time to time;

    “Co-Applicant” means an individual who has submitted an Application for a Personal Account as the co-applicant and to whom you have issued a Card;

    “Employee” means an individual who is an employee of a Business Applicant for a Business Avion Account;

    “Personal Account” means each of the following accounts: RBC Visa Infinite Avion, RBC Visa Infinite, RBC Royal Bank Visa Platinum Avion, RBC Rewards Visa Preferred (formerly RBC Royal Bank Visa Gold Preferred and RBC Royal Bank Visa Platinum Preferred), Signature RBC Rewards Visa (formerly RBC Royal Bank Visa Classic II), RBC Rewards Visa Gold, RBC Rewards Visa Classic, RBC Royal Bank U.S. Dollar Visa Gold or RBC Royal Bank Visa Classic II Student account;

    “Personal Applicant” means the individual who has submitted an Application for a Personal Account as the primary Cardholder, to whom you have issued a Card and in whose name the Account is established. A Personal Applicant does not include a Co-Applicant or Authorized User;

    “Personal Avion” means either the RBC Royal Bank Visa Platinum Avion or RBC Visa Infinite Avion Account/Card;

    “Point(s)” means the RBC Rewards points;

    “Primary Business Cardholder” means an individual owner/partner/shareholder/authorized signing officer of a Business Applicant who has submitted an Application as a primary Cardholder on a Business Account, to whom you have issued a Card and who is authorized to give you directions regarding the participation of the Business Applicant, the Secondary Business Cardholder or Employees in the Program;

    “Program” means the RBC Rewards Program;

    “RBC Financial Rewards® means the vouchers I may redeem Points for and which I may use towards a contribution to any of the registered plans listed under the RBC Registered Rewards® category, or apply towards any of the following financial products: RBC Mortgage, RBC Homeline Plan®, Royal Credit Line® and RBC Personal Loan, as set out in Section 13;

    “RBC Mortgage” means a 1st ranking residential mortgage (in Quebec, a hypothec) on an owner-occupied residential property of four (4) units or less, or an RBC Homeline Plan, granted by me as borrower or co-borrower to Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Trust Corporation of Canada or The Royal Trust Company;

    “RBC Personal Loan” means a loan granted to an individual for personal use including variable rate, fixed rate and conditional sales contracts through our retail dealer services that are assigned to Royal Bank of Canada. This excludes any loan that is not in good standing both at the time my Points are redeemed and the time the RBC Financial Rewards voucher is applied towards my loan;

    “RBC Registered Rewards” means a category of RBC Financial Rewards comprised of any of the following registered plans: Registered Retirement Savings Plan (“RRSP”), Registered Education Savings Plan (“RESP”) and/or Tax-Free Savings Account (“TFSA”) held with Royal Bank of Canada, RBC Dominion Securities Inc., RBC Direct Investing Inc or RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel Inc.

    “RBC Rewards Account” means the nominal account tied to an Account or a Card you open for the crediting and debiting of Points in connection with the Program;

    “RBC Travel Rewards” means all travel rewards redeemed as set out in Sections 15 and 16 other than an Air Travel Reward;

    “Redemption Schedule” means the current Air Travel Redemption Schedule which you will issue from time to time and which is only available to Personal Avion and Business Avion Cardholders, as well as to clients who hold other eligible RBC Royal Bank products or services that earns RBC Rewards points, as per the RBC Rewards in Banking Terms and Conditions (opens new window). The current Redemption Schedule may be found on your web site at www.rbcrewards.com (opens new window)

    “Reward(s)” means Travel Rewards, merchandise, gift cards/certificates redeemable for merchandise or services at select merchants (including the RBC Visa Gift Card), RBC Financial Rewards and Charity Rewards I may select under the Program;

    “Secondary Business Cardholder” means an individual owner/partner/shareholder of a Business Applicant who has submitted an Application as the secondary Cardholder on a CLSB Account and to whom you have issued a Card;

    “Statement Date” means the last day of the period to which an Account Statement relates;

    “Terms” means these RBC Rewards Terms and Conditions; and

    “Travel Rewards” means RBC Travel Rewards and Air Travel Rewards, collectively.

I agree with you as follows:

  1. General Terms:

    1. These Terms apply to the Program. These Terms replace all prior terms and conditions with respect to the Program.

  2. Acceptance of Terms:

    1. If I activate, sign or use my Card, it will mean that I have read these Terms and that I have understood and agreed with you to everything written here. Notwithstanding any other section of these Terms, the posting of the current version of the Terms at www.rbcrewards.com (opens new window)shall be deemed notice to me of such Terms, where notice is required or permitted to be given hereunder.

  3. Eligibility:

    1. The Program is available to me if I have a Card and an Account in Good Standing. For a Personal Account, Points in the RBC Rewards Account are solely for the benefit of the Personal Applicant, subject to the rights of the Co-Applicant to redeem Points as set out in Section 11.

    2. For a CLSB Account, Points in the RBC Rewards Account are solely for the benefit of the Primary Business Cardholder, subject to the rights of the Secondary Business Cardholder to redeem Points as set out in Section 11.

    3. For a Business Avion Account, (i) Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to the Card of a Primary Business Cardholder are solely for the benefit of that Primary Business Cardholder and (ii) Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to the Card of an Employee are solely for the benefit of that Employee, unless the Business Applicant has requested that Points from multiple RBC Rewards Accounts be rolled-up as set out under Section 12(b).

    4. While all Cards are automatically included in the Program for the purposes of earning Points, Co-Applicants, Authorized Users, Secondary Business Cardholders and Employees have no rights against you under these Terms, notwithstanding Co-Applicants' (in the case of a Personal Account), Secondary Business Cardholders' (in the case of a CLSB Account) and Employees' (in the case of a Business Avion Account) ability to redeem Points as set out above.

  4. Points:

    1. The Program is based on Points. Points awarded in the Program have no cash value and do not constitute my property for any purpose. Points may only be transferred to another person as set out in Section 22. Points may only be consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined, transferred or rolled-up to another RBC Rewards Account or another loyalty program as set out in Sections 11 and 12

  5. Earning Points For Net Purchases:

    A. If I have the following account:

    • RBC Visa Infinite Avion

    The RBC Rewards Account is awarded (i) one (1) Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to my Account during the operation of the Program, other than Travel Purchases (ii) and 1.25 Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to the Account during the operation of the Program, which are Travel Purchases.

    A “Travel Purchase” is a travel-related purchase made at merchants who are classified by a merchant category code as “travel”, which include: airlines, accommodations, cruises, vacation packages, travel agencies and car rentals. Some merchants may sell theses products/services or are separate merchants who are located on the premises of these merchants, but are coded in another manner, in which case this added benefit would not apply.

    B. If I have one of the following accounts:

    • RBC Royal Bank Visa Platinum Avion
    • RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion
    • RBC Visa Infinite
    • RBC Rewards Visa Preferred
    • Signature RBC Rewards Visa
    • RBC Royal Bank Visa Classic II Student
    • RBC Royal Bank U.S. Dollar Visa Gold
    • (rate may be adjusted periodically to reflect currency fluctuations)

    The RBC Rewards Account is awarded one (1) Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to the Account during the operation of the Program.

    C. If I have one of the following accounts:

    • RBC Rewards Visa Gold
    • RBC Rewards Visa Classic
    • RBC Royal Bank Visa CreditLine for Small Business

    The RBC Rewards Account is awarded one (1) Point for every CAD $2.00 in Net Purchases charged to the Account during the operation of the Program.

    For the purposes of this Section 6, “Net Purchases” means purchases of goods and services that I or any Co-Applicant, Authorized User, Secondary Business Cardholder or Employee charges to an Account, less any credits. No Points shall be earned in respect of Cash Advances, interest charges, fees or for the redemption of Points.

    Points are only available for redemption after the Statement Date of the Account Statement on which the transactions for which the Points were earned and the Points earned first appear. Transactions that take place prior to the Statement Date of an Account Statement will not appear on the Account Statement if they have not been posted or processed by the merchant, the Visa system or you by the Statement Date. I will not be awarded any Points for transactions that have not yet appeared on my Account Statement. If my Statement Date would otherwise fall on a holiday or weekend, it will generally be advanced to the preceding business day. As a result, the posting of some transactions and the appearance on the Account Statement of the Points for those transactions may be delayed to the next Account Statement.

    Credits for returns or adjustments reflected on my Account Statements during the operation of the Program will reduce or cancel the Points earned by the amounts originally charged.

  6. Earning Bonus Points:

    1. You may, but are not obligated to, make arrangements with selected merchants, retailers or service providers from time to time that allow me to earn bonus Points for purchases charged to the Account. Your Carlson Wagonlit Travel Program(1) and Thrifty Car Rental Program(2) are examples of such bonus Points earning opportunities.

    2. I will refer to www.rbcrewards.com (opens new window) for full details of these programs and other opportunities that you may make available to me to earn bonus Points from time to time.

  7. Earning Bonus Points in the RBC Rewards eMall:

    1. I can earn bonus Points for making a purchase at participating retailers in the RBC Rewards eMall(3). Bonus Points are earned ONLY when linking from the RBC Rewards eMall to a participating retailer's website and making a purchase in accordance with the participating retailer's offer terms and conditions. The participating retailers, not Royal Bank of Canada, are responsible for the offers and for the purchases made in the RBC Rewards eMall. Participating retailers establish the rules for each offer, including how the bonus Points are earned, when the offer expires and any other terms, conditions and restrictions.

    2. Details on participating retailers and their respective bonus Points offers can be found in the RBC Rewards eMall. The list of participating retailers and offers is subject to change without notice. Before making a purchase, review the details of the offer.

    3. It will take at least 30 days for bonus Points to appear in my RBC Rewards Account. Once posted to the RBC Rewards account, bonus Points have the same value as all other Points. If I do not see bonus Points I earned within 30 days of my qualifying purchase, I will contact you. Bonus Points may not be added to my RBC Rewards Account after 90 days from the date the qualifying purchase is made and any missing bonus Points will be considered waived. Bonus Points will appear in my Account Statement 4-6 weeks after any qualifying purchase.

    4. For inquiries about purchases made from participating retailers in the RBC Rewards eMall, I will contact the participating retailer.

    5. For inquiries about my RBC Rewards Account or my bonus Points, I will contact:

  8. Points Verification:

    1. A section of each of my Account Statements will show my Points transactions and balance ("Points Statement"). Each month, I will examine promptly my Points Statement and each entry and balance recorded in it. If I do not notify you in writing of any errors in, or objections to, a Points Statement, or an entry or balance recorded in it, within ninety (90) days from the Statement Date indicated as such on the Account Statement, you are entitled to treat the entries and balance in that Points Statement as complete, correct and binding on me and you will be released from all claims that may be asserted by me in respect of such Points Statement, entries and balance.

    2. I will not obtain any credit for erroneous or omitted Points transactions if I do not notify you of the error or omission within one (1) year of the date of the erroneous or omitted transaction.

  9. Records of Points and Rewards:

    1. Your records of my Points and/or Rewards shall be final, conclusive and binding on me. You may use a microfilm, electronic or other reproduction method of any Points Statement or other document to establish my Points transactions and balance and/or my Rewards.

  10. Use of Points:

    1. Points must be redeemed during the operation of the Program and during the time that my Account is an Account in Good Standing.

    2. On the date I request my Reward, the RBC Rewards Account will be debited the number of Points I am required to redeem for that Reward.

    3. For a Personal Account, the Co-Applicant may redeem the Points in the RBC Rewards Account at any time, or transfer the Points from the RBC Rewards Account to another eligible RBC Rewards Account tied to an Account the Co-Applicant also owns as a Personal Applicant or Co-Applicant, at any time. If the Co-Applicant redeems the Points in the RBC Rewards Account or transfers the Points from the RBC Rewards Account to another eligible RBC Rewards Account as set-out above, you may deem them to be doing so as my agent, with full authority to redeem/transfer the Points on my behalf, even if my Points are redeemed for the benefit of the Co-Applicant, an Authorized User or any other person.

    4. For a CLSB Account, the Secondary Business Cardholder may redeem the Points in the RBC Rewards Account at any time. If the Secondary Business Cardholder redeems the Points in the RBC Rewards Account, you may deem them to be doing so on my behalf, even if my Points are redeemed for the benefit of the Secondary Business Cardholder or any other person.

    5. For a Business Avion Account, each Primary Business Cardholder and Employee may redeem the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to their Card, provided the Business Applicant has not made a request to you under Section 13(b) with respect to any Points roll-up.

    6. You may, but are not required to, permit me to designate an authorized agent in your prescribed manner to obtain information from you regarding the RBC Rewards Accounts, redeem Points on my behalf, and generally give instructions to you regarding my participation in the Program.

    7. Points that remain unredeemed as of ninety (90) days after (i) the termination of the Program, or (ii) I voluntarily close my Account, may automatically be cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined, transferred or rolled-up.

    8. A consolidation, conversion, exchange or combination of my Points with/to points or miles of other loyalty programs with partners you designate from time to time, or transfer of my Points from the RBC Rewards Account to another eligible RBC Rewards Account as set out in Section 12 (b), shall constitute redemption of my Points for all purposes of these Terms.

  11. Points Consolidation, Conversion, Exchange, Combination, Transfer or Roll-Up:

    1. Applicable to all Accounts:

      1. Personal Applicants and Primary Business Cardholders may only consolidate, convert, exchange, combine, transfer or roll-up Points earned in multiple RBC Rewards Accounts, as you permit, and subject to such restrictions and conditions as you may impose, from time to time, in your absolute discretion.

      2. You may permit me to consolidate, convert, exchange, combine or transfer Points with/to Points of other RBC Royal Bank loyalty programs, or with/to points, miles or other "partner rewards" of loyalty programs with partners you designate from time to time for this purpose, subject to the conditions and restrictions set out in sub-Section (iii) below. Without limiting the foregoing, the rate of conversion, exchange or transfer of Points in each case will be determined by you, and you may prohibit consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer or limit the number of Points that may be converted, exchanged or transferred, all in your absolute discretion.

      3. In order to qualify for any consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer of Points under sub-Sections (i) and (ii), I must have an Account in Good Standing, I must be a member in the other loyalty program, and I must be able to satisfy the minimum Points requirements for consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer you set from time to time. Points may only be consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred to/with Points of another RBC Rewards Account or with/to points, miles or "partner rewards" of another loyalty program account in the same name as the Account.

      4. Esso Extra points: If I am a member of the Esso Extra Program, I may convert Points to Esso Extra points. A minimum of 1,500 Points must be converted each time, but Points can be converted in blocks of 300 Points thereafter. For every 1,500 Points which is converted, I will receive 2,500 Esso Extra points. For every 300 Points which is converted, I will receive 500 Esso Extra points. The Esso Extra account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to Esso Extra points, they are subject to the full Esso Extra Program Rules. I may also convert Esso Extra points into Points online at www.essoextra.com (opens external website in new window). I will refer to www.essoextra.com (opens external website in new window) for full Esso Extra program rules.

      5. Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points: If I am a member of the Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Program, I may convert Points to Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points. Once Points are converted to Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points, they must remain in the Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 1,500 Points must be converted each time, but Points can be converted in blocks of 500 Points thereafter. For every 1,500 Points which is converted, I will receive 8,000 Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points. For every 500 Points which is converted, I will receive 2,500 Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points. The Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Points, they are subject to the full Shoppers/Pharmaprix Optimum Program terms and conditions.       6. WestJet dollars: If I am a member of the WestJet Rewards program, I may convert Points to WestJet dollars. Once Points are converted to WestJet dollars, they must remain in the WestJet Rewards Program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 1000 Points must be converted each time. For every 100 Points which is converted, I will receive 1 WestJet dollar. The WestJet dollar account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to WestJet dollars, they are subject to the full WestJet Rewards program terms and conditions including, but not limited to, those pertaining to WestJet dollars expiry, flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods. I will refer to www.westjet.com/rewards (opens external website in new window) for full program terms and conditions.

      7. Loyalty programs operated by your partners may place additional conditions and restrictions on Points consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer, including minimum and maximum Point limits and restrictions on types of benefits that may be obtained.

      8. I may be charged a service fee for any Points consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer pursuant to this Section 12. It may take up to four (4) weeks for the points, miles or "partner rewards" to appear in my account in the other loyalty programs. Points consolidation, conversions, exchange, combination or transfer are final and may not be reversed. I will refer to www.rbcrewards.com (opens new window) for full details.

    2. Applicable to Business Avion Accounts only:

      1. A Business Applicant for a Business Avion Account may choose to roll-up into a single designated RBC Rewards Account, all Points earned by all Primary Business Cardholder(s) and Employee(s) for that Business Applicant.

      2. If there are multiple Primary Business Cardholders on a Business Avion Account, this Points roll-up feature is limited in that (i) all Points earned by all Primary Business Cardholder(s) and Employee(s) for that Business Applicant can only be rolled-up into the RBC Rewards Account of one (1) designated Primary Business Cardholder, and (ii) only that Primary Business Cardholder can also roll-up all the Points contained in that RBC Rewards Account into an RBC Rewards Account tied to a Personal Avion Account, and for which that designated Primary Business Cardholder is also the Applicant or Co-Applicant.

      3. Employees who also have a Personal Avion Account are not eligible to roll-up Points.

      4. The Business Applicant can decide to stop benefitting from this Points roll-up feature at any time. However, since Points roll-up is final and can't be reversed, once Points have been rolled-up from one RBC Rewards Account to another, they can't be transferred back to the original RBC Rewards Account.

      5. This Points roll-up feature is subject to such other restrictions as you may impose, in your absolute discretion.

    3. Applicable to Personal Avion , Business Avion and RBC Visa Infinite Accounts only:

      1. Cathay Pacific Asia Miles: If I am a member of the Asia Miles program, I may convert Points to Asia Miles. Once Points are converted to Asia Miles, they must remain in the Asia Miles program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 10,000 Points must be converted each time. For every 1 Point which is converted, I will receive 1 Asia Mile The Asia Miles account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to Asia Miles, they are subject to the full Cathay Pacific Asia Miles program terms and conditions including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods.       2. British Airways Avios points: If I am a member of the British Airways Executive Club program, I may convert Points to Avios. Once Points are converted to Avios, they must remain in the British Airways Executive Club program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 10,000 Points must be converted each time. For every 1 Point which is converted, I will receive 1 Avios. The British Airways Executive Club account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to Avios, they are subject to the full British Airways Executive Club program terms and conditions including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods.       3. American Airlines AAdvantage Miles: If I am a member of the AAdvantage program, I may convert Points to American Airlines AAdvantage miles. Once Points are converted to AAdvantage Miles, they must remain in the AAdvantage program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 5,000 Points must be converted each time. For every 1 Point which is converted, I will receive 1 AAdvantage mile. The AAdvantage account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to AAdvantage Miles, they are subject to the full AAdvantage program terms and conditions including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods.   12. Redeeming Points for Merchandise from the RBC Rewards online Merchandise catalogue, Gift Cards/Certificates, e-Certificates, RBC Financial Rewards® Vouchers and Charity Rewards:

    1. General

      1. I must accumulate the required number of Points for the Reward(s) of my choice at the time of my request. The number of required Points is set out in the applicable catalogue(s) and other sources such as newsletters, direct mail, advertisements, brochures, flyers or Internet or e-mail offers. Any taxes and basic shipping charges (by prepaid delivery service) are included in the value of the Points redeemed for each item that I order.

      2. All merchandise offerings are subject to availability. If an item is unavailable exactly as shown, I will be offered a substitute of equal or greater value. In such cases, I will have the option of declining the substitute item at no cost if it does not meet my needs. In the case of an offer to substitute or if no similar item is available, I will be able to cancel my order.

      2. Gift cards/certificates and RBC Financial Rewards vouchers will be sent by ordinary mail and I assume full responsibility if they are lost or stolen in the mail. I may also request delivery by courier, that could take up to five (5) business days and in which case I will be charged a minimum of CAD $50.00.

    4. Returns of Merchandise:

      1. In the event that a merchandise item is defective, damaged or incorrect, I may return the merchandise to you within five (5) days of receipt by me.

      2. The RBC Rewards Account will be credited the appropriate number of Points I redeemed for the item.

      3. Notwithstanding the foregoing, I understand that some redemptions such as redemption of Points for gift cards/certificates, RBC Financial Rewards vouchers, Charity Rewards as well as Points conversion/exchange are final and cannot be cancelled, reversed or returned for credit; when a no-return policy applies to a Reward I have requested, you will notify me before I complete the redemption of Points.

    5. Applying RBC Financial Rewards® Vouchers Towards Registered and Non-Registered Financial Products:

      1. Points redeemed for RBC Financial Rewards vouchers have a value of CAD $1.00 per 120 Points.

      2. A minimum of 12,000 Points (equivalent to CAD $100.00) must be redeemed for each RBC Financial Rewards voucher and can only be redeemed in increments of 3,000 Points (equivalent to CAD $25.00) thereafter.

      3. The highest denomination issued for a RBC Financial Rewards voucher is CAD $500.00; however, there is no limit to the redemption total amount.

      4. The RBC Financial Rewards vouchers are made payable to Royal Bank of Canada and are accepted by Royal Bank of Canada, RBC Dominion Securities Inc., RBC Direct Investing Inc. and RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel Inc. if you use them to contribute to a RBC Registered Rewards plan.

      5. I understand that RBC Financial Rewards vouchers can only be processed at my RBC Royal Bank branch through a customer service representative, and cannot be processed via an Automated Teller Machine ("ATM").

      6. I understand that RBC Financial Rewards vouchers cannot be deposited into a personal savings or chequing account.

      7. I understand that if I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of any RBC Mortgage, RBC Homeline Plan, Royal Credit Line and/or RBC Personal Loan through the Program, such loan account(s) must be in good standing both at the time my Points are redeemed and at the time the RBC Financial Rewards voucher is applied towards my account.

      8. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of my RBC Mortgage, I understand it may only be applied as a Double-Up® payment. I understand that the minimum Double-Up payment is $100.00 and the payment cannot exceed the total of the principal and interest portions of my regular payment. For example, if I redeemed for three (3) vouchers of $100.00 each but my regular mortgage payment amount is $280.00, I will only be able to apply two (2) of the vouchers (totalling $200.00) to my payment. The other $100.00 voucher could be applied as a Double-Up payment on my next payment date. I also understand that it cannot be used as part of my regular payment and that I am permitted only one Double-Up payment on each payment date.

      9. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of a credit line or mortgage loan segment under my RBC Homeline Plan, I understand it may only be applied towards payment of the outstanding principal of a Royal Credit Line or as a Double-Up payment for a mortgage loan segment under my RBC Homeline Plan account. My payment must be applied towards only one Royal Credit Line or one of my mortgage loan segments under my RBC Homeline Plan and cannot be divided among more than one Royal Credit Line or multiple mortgage loan segments. I understand that the minimum Double-Up payment is $100.00 and the payment cannot exceed the total of the principal and interest portions of my regular payment. For example, if I redeemed for three (3) vouchers of $100.00 each but my regular mortgage payment amount is $280.00, I will only be able to apply two (2) of the vouchers (totalling $200.00) to my payment.       11. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of my RBC Personal Loan, I understand it may only be applied as a principal only payment to my RBC Personal Loan account and cannot be used as part of my regular monthly payment.

      12. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards a contribution to a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I understand that such voucher will be applied to my RRSP, RESP or TFSA just like a cash contribution. If I already have a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I will visit my RBC Royal Bank branch, my investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities Inc. or my investment counsellor at RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel Inc., with my voucher, send the voucher directly to RBC Direct Investing Inc. or RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel Inc. , as the case may be, and give instructions to make such contribution. If I don't already have a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I will bring my voucher to my RBC Royal Bank branch, open a RRSP, RESP, TFSA and give instructions in order to make such contribution.

        I understand that before redeeming my Points for a RBC Financial Rewards voucher that I wish to use towards a contribution to a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I will make sure I qualify and have enough contribution room for the given tax year, in accordance with the Income Tax Act (Canada).

      13. The use of RBC Financial Rewards vouchers may be subject to other terms and conditions set by you from time to time which are not expressly mentioned in these Terms. I will contact:

  13. Redeeming Points for Best Buy and Future Shop’s merchandise from the Best Buy and Future Shop catalogues available through rbcrewards.com

    1. How to place an order

      1. If I have accumulated the required number of Points for the item(s) of my choice, I may decide to pay for the item(s) using Points only. I may also decide to pay using a combination of Points and a credit card. In the event that I do not have the required number of Points for my purchase, I must pay for the outstanding balance with a credit card.

      2. The required number of Points and the corresponding basic price in dollars for an item are set out in the Best Buy and Future Shop catalogue(s). Applicable taxes and any other additional fees, if any, are not included in the required number of Points or corresponding basic price in dollars for the item, but they will clearly be disclosed to me prior to completing my transaction.

      3. All merchandise appearing in the Best Buy and Future Shop catalogue(s) are subject to availability.

      4. To order merchandise from the Best Buy and Future Shop catalogue(s), I will go online at: www.rbcrewards.com (opens new window) and click on the applicable “Best Buy” or “Future Shop” tab.

    2. Delivery of Merchandise

      1. I may choose to get the item(s) of my choice delivered by mail or I may chose to pick up the item(s) in-store (provided that second option is available).

      2. For all items that don't require scheduled delivery, shipping is free. Additional shipping and handling charges apply to items that require scheduled delivery and those additional charges will clearly be disclosed to me prior to completing my transaction.

    3. Return of Merchandise

      1. All returnable items must be returned within 14 to 30 days, depending on the item, but some product lines have special restriction or return policies. The return period begins on the date the item(s) is picked up from the store or on the date the item(s) is delivered.

      2. Items that were delivered by mail must be returned by mail or returned in-store. Items that were picked up in-store must be returned in-store.

      3.       5. Items returned by mail will be refunded through the original method of payment. For example, if I have paid for my item(s) using a combination of both Points and a credit card, a refund will be applied to my credit card account and the Points will be credited back to my RBC Rewards Account.

  14. Payback With Points - Redeeming Points to make a payment on my Account

    1. I may decide to redeem my Points to make a payment towards my Account balance.

    2. To make a payment using Points, I will go online at https://www.rbcrewards.com/paywithpoints/index.html (opens new window) or call 1-800-769-2512, where I will be asked to select the Account I want to apply my payment to and the amount of my payment. The Points for my redemption will be taken from the RBC Rewards Account tied to the Account I have selected.

    3. My Payback with Points redemption will be applied as a payment towards the balance of the Account I have selected, not towards a particular transaction. Also, my Payback with Points redemption cannot be converted into cash, cheque or into any other form.

    4. My Payback with Points redemption will be applied to my Account like any other payment. The amount of my payment will be applied up to my minimum payment, first to any interest and second to any fees. The remainder of any minimum payment will be applied to my new balance. If my Payback with Points redemption does not cover my entire minimum payment for an Account Statement period, it is my sole responsibility to pay the difference by the payment due date.     5. It will take two (2) to three (3) business days for my payment to be credited to my Account and to adjust my available credit. I will make sure I allow sufficient time for you to receive and credit my payment by the payment due date as shown on my Account Statement.

    6. Redemptions are final and cannot be cancelled or reversed once submitted.

  15. Redeeming Points for Air Travel Rewards:

    1. Applicable to Personal Avion and Business Avion Accounts Only:

      1. Points may be redeemed for Air Travel Rewards in accordance with the Redemption Schedule.

      2. The Redemption Schedule forms part of these Terms. You may amend or replace the Redemption Schedule at your sole discretion at any time without notice to me.

      3. Air Travel Reward redemptions off the Redemption Schedule require at least a fourteen (14) day advance booking and can only be made through RBC Rewards Travel. An airline travel redemption booked within fourteen (14) days of departure will be treated as a RBC Travel Reward. Notice: If I need to book a flight with less than fourteen (14) days notice, I have the ability to redeem my points at a rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00 (for example, a roundtrip flight from Toronto to New York that costs CAD $450.00 would require the redemption of 45,000 Points).

      4. Airline tickets are economy class round trip tickets and are not refundable.

      5. Air Travel Rewards must include a North American destination.

      6. The airline or carrier and the flight route for my destination are determined solely by you.

      7. The Points redeemed for an Air Travel Reward are in exchange for the airline ticket only, and I am responsible for and must pay all taxes and service fees (including sales, GST, departure and transportation taxes and fees, airport improvement fees, or other taxes), excess baggage charges, immigration fees, governmental fees and levies, customs charges and passenger facilities charges, health or other inspection fees, fuel surcharges and other non-ticket costs or charges which may be imposed.

      8. If the price of an airline ticket that I choose exceeds the "maximum ticket price" as set out in the Redemption Schedule (exclusive of GST and PST where applicable), then I may redeem my Points to purchase that ticket if (i) I authorize you to charge the difference between the ticket price and the "maximum ticket price" to my Account, or (ii) I redeem additional Points at the rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00 and apply that amount as a "top up" towards the cost of an airline ticket that exceeds the "maximum ticket price".

      9. When I book my Air Travel Reward, I may redeem Points at the rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00 to pay for any of the taxes or other costs referred to in sub-Section (vii) above and for which I am responsible.

      10. I may request an Air Travel Reward even if I don't have the required number of Points in the RBC Rewards Account, as set out in the Redemption Schedule, by acquiring additional Points from you to make up the shortfall. I understand that such additional Points can only be acquired through RBC Rewards Travel. I may acquire these additional Points at the time I make my booking, in increments of 1,000 Points each to a maximum of 15,000 Points, for any Air Travel Reward. I must already have at least 50% of the Points required for that Air Travel Reward in the RBC Rewards Account and must use all of these existing Points for the booking. For each 1,000 additional Points I acquire from you for this purpose, my Account will be charged CAD $40.00 plus applicable taxes. All such Points acquisitions are final.

      11. The Redemption Schedule contains general descriptions only. You and your agents have absolute discretion to determine which classification in the Redemption Schedule applies to any requested Air Travel Reward. Other destinations in addition to those listed in the Redemption Schedule may be made available by you from time to time.

      12. All Air Travel Rewards are subject to availability.

  16. How to Place an Order and Redeem your Points for Travel Rewards:

    1. Applicable to all Accounts, except RBC Visa Infinite Accounts:

      1. Travel Rewards can be redeemed by calling RBC Rewards Travel at:1-877-636-2870 or online, at: https://www.rbcrewards.com/travel-rewards/how-to-book (opens new window).

      2. I may also redeem my Points for a Travel Reward directly at a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location, at the rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00. A minimum of 2,500 Points must be redeemed. A service charge and other conditions may apply.

      3. I must make reservations for Travel Rewards through RBC Rewards Travel or directly at a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location; reservations made other than through these services do not qualify as Travel Rewards and cannot be ordered using Points.

      4. RBC Rewards Travel is not a travel supplier, nor a travel agency. I am aware that some suppliers or travel suppliers or agencies offer exclusive arrangements which may not be available for booking through RBC Rewards Travel or at Carlson Wagonlit Travel locations.

      5. Confirmations: Reservations made through RBC Rewards Travel or a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location will be confirmed to me via email or in writing. If my request cannot be confirmed via e-mail or in writing, I will be contacted as soon as possible, usually within a few days. This confirmation serves as proof of purchase and it is my responsibility to check this carefully and notify RBC Rewards Travel or the Carlson Wagonlit Travel location where the redemption was made of any discrepancies on the same day I receive this confirmation to possibly avoid travel provider or supplier change and cancellation fees.

    2. Applicable to RBC Visa Infinite Accounts only

      1. RBC Visa Infinite Cardholders may contact their Private Banker for further details on how to redeem Points for RBC Travel Rewards.

  17. Fees and Other Services Charges for Travel Rewards Redemptions

    1. Applicable to all Accounts except RBC Visa Infinite Accounts

      1. Airline Ticket Purchase Fee:

        1. When purchase is made using Points only or part Points/part Account:

          — By booking online through RBC Rewards Travel: no charge.

          — By calling RBC Rewards Travel: CAD $30.00, plus taxes, per ticket, charged to my Account.

          — At a Carlson Wagonlit Travel ("CWT") location: CAD $39.00, plus taxes, per ticket, charged to my Account. Fee is subject to change without notice. I will contact CWT directly for details.

        2. When purchase is made without using Points (Account only):

          — By booking online through RBC Rewards Travel: CAD $15.00, plus taxes, per ticket, charged to my Account.

          — By calling RBC Rewards Travel: CAD $30.00, plus taxes, per ticket, charged to my Account.

          — At a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location: I will contact CWT directly for details.

        3. Airline Ticket/Itinerary Delivery Fee:

          — By regular post and e-mail: no charge.

          — By courier: Fee may vary. I will contact the airline, travel provider and/or supplier directly for details. The fee will be charged to my Account.

        4. Airline Ticket Change/Cancellation Fee:

          CAD $25.00 per alteration, per airline ticket, plus applicable service charges and/or taxes levied by the airline, travel provider and/or supplier. The fee will be charged to my Account.

      2. Hotel Stays, Car Rentals, Cruises, Vacation Packages Purchase Fee:

        1. When purchase is made using Points only, part Points/part Account or Account only:

          — By booking online through RBC Rewards Travel: no charge.

          — By calling RBC Rewards Travel: CAD $30.00, plus taxes, per booking, charged to my Account (regardless of number of passengers or items per booking).

          Note: If I book an airline ticket in addition to a hotel stay, car rental, cruise or vacation package, only the fees applicable to the airline ticket as disclosed in section (i) above will be charged to my Account.

        2. Hotel Booking Change/Cancellation Fee:

          — CAD $10.00, plus taxes, per booking, charged to my Account.

        3. Car Rental Booking Change/Cancellation Fee:

          — CAD $10.00, plus taxes, per booking, charged to my Account.

  18. Cancelation of Travel Rewards

    1. If, for any reason, I cancel my Air Travel Reward or RBC Travel Reward request, my Account and the RBC Rewards Account may be credited the amount I spent and/or the appropriate number of Points I redeemed, on the date of receipt by you of the relevant information, depending on (i) the cancellation policies of the travel supplier, (ii) the time of the year (high or low season) and (iii) my Trip Cancellation4 or Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance4, if applicable. For full details, I will consult my RBC Rewards Travel representative from RBC Rewards Travel or a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location or, if I am an RBC Visa Infinite Cardholder, my Personal Travel Advisor at RBC Visa Infinite Travel, before I complete the redemption of Points.

    2. Provided I am covered by a Trip Cancellation or by a Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance, I understand that my Certificate of Insurance contains provisions that may limit or exclude coverage and for full details, I will refer to my Certificate of Insurance or call Assured Assistance, at 1-800-533-2778 toll-free from the US and Canada, or (905) 816-2581 collect from anywhere in the world or if I am an RBC Visa Infinite Cardholder at 1-888-769-2597.

  19. Travel Insurance:

    1. When I book a Travel Reward through the Program, either by using only Points, Points plus a charge to my Account or only a charge to my Account, I may be covered by various insurance benefits dependent on my Card. For complete details, I will refer to the Certificates of Insurance for my Card.

    2. All insurance is subject to limitations and exclusions. Please refer to the Certificates of Insurance included in your welcome kit for complete details.

  20. Limit on Your Responsibility:

    If you improperly deny me a Reward I select, your liability will be limited to the cash equivalent of that Reward. In no event, will you be liable or responsible for, and I release you from, all claims in respect of any loss or damage suffered in connection with the Program by me or others that is caused by:

    1. failure by you to provide me with one or more Points Statement(s);

    2. any errors or omissions in the catalogue(s) and other sources;

    3. redemption of my Points or any problem that I or others have in connection with my Reward. By redeeming my Points for a Reward, I release you from any and all liability and claims regarding the redemption or use of such Reward;

    4. redemption of my Points by the Co-Applicant, Secondary Business Cardholder, an Employee or any other Cardholder;

    5. loss or theft of a Reward;

    6. suspension or termination of the Program for any reason;

    7. suspension or termination of my membership in the Program, the closing of my Account or the cancellation or invalidation of any or all of my Points;

    8. cancellation of any RBC Travel Reward or Air Travel Reward;

    9. failure by RBC Rewards Travel or the Carlson Wagonlit Travel location or if I am an RBC Visa Infinite Cardholder, the Personal Travel Advisor at RBC Visa Infinite Travel where/with whom the redemption was made to provide me with information which results in travel arrangements that have a higher cost or differ in any way from arrangements which may be available through other sources;

    10. performance or action of a travel supplier and/or if I am an RBC Visa Infinite Cardholder, the Personal Advisor at RBC Visa Infinite Travel, in any way, including the failure of any travel supplier to perform as described. Should circumstances beyond your control result in a supplier's failure to provide an RBC Travel Reward or Air Travel Reward, you may attempt, but are under no obligation, to provide a suitable replacement RBC Travel Reward or Air Travel Reward. In the alternative, you may, but are under no obligation to, credit the Points back to the RBC Rewards Account, and if applicable, money to my Account as well, but will not assume any costs I may incur relating to that RBC Travel Reward or Air Travel Reward.

    11. the purchase of a product or service from a participating retailer in the RBC Rewards eMall or other partner, merchant or service provider in connection with the Program; or

    12. linking to a website not owned or operated by you.

  21. Death/Divorce:

    1. Upon the death of any Personal Applicant who has been awarded Points on the Program, that Personal Applicant's membership will terminate, the Account will be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account will be available for redemption by that Personal Applicant's estate. If the Account is shared by a Co-Applicant, (i) the ownership of the Account will be transferred to the Co-Applicant (who will become the Personal Applicant on the Account), or (ii) the Account will be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account will be available for redemption by the Co-Applicant as set-out in Section 11(b).

    2. For a CLSB Account, upon the death of either the Primary Business Cardholder who has been awarded Points on the Program or the Secondary Business Cardholder, that Primary Business Cardholder's membership will terminate, the Account will be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account will be available for redemption by the Business Applicant.

    3. For a Business Avion Account with multiple Primary Business Cardholders, upon the death of a Primary Business Cardholder who has been awarded Points on the Program, and subject to Section 12(b), that Primary Business Cardholder's membership will terminate, the Business Avion Account may be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to the deceased's Card will be available for redemption by the Business Applicant. The surviving Primary Business Cardholder(s) and Employee(s), if any, and subject to Section 12(b), may also have to redeem the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to their Card upon the Business Avion Account closure.

    4. For a Business Avion Account with one Primary Business Cardholder, upon the death of the Primary Business Cardholder who has been awarded Points on the Program, that Primary Business Cardholder's membership will terminate, the Business Avion Account will be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to the deceased's Card will be available for redemption by the Primary Business Cardholder's estate. The Employee(s), if any, and subject to Section 12(b), will also have to redeem the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to their Card upon the Business Avion Account closure.

    5. Upon the death of any Employee who has been awarded Points on the Program, and subject to Section 12(b), that Employee's membership will terminate and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account tied to the deceased's Card will be available for redemption by the Business Applicant.

    6. Points that have not been redeemed as of ninety (90) days after the Account is closed will automatically be cancelled and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined, transferred or rolled-up.

    7. Should a scenario have not been covered by this Section, especially if my Business Avion Account is subject to Section 12(b), I will contact the RBC Rewards Customer Service Centre for information at: 1-800-769-2512. or, if I am an RBC Visa Infinite Cardholder, at 1-888-769-2597.

    8. Points will not be exchanged for cash and are not divisible in case of separation or divorce.

  22. Use of Information:

    1. You may exchange all information relating to the Program, my RBC Rewards Account and my Account transactions with other parties, such as participating partners, merchants or service providers, as required to administer the Program, to fulfill my redemption requests under the Program and to provide me with Program information by mail or email. All collection, use or disclosure of personal information about me shall be in accordance with the applicable Account agreement and the RBC Privacy Policy that is available at www.rbc.com/privacy (opens new window) and at any branch of the Bank.

  23. Waiver:

    1. Any waiver by you of the strict observance, performance or compliance by me of any portion of these Terms and any extension of time or other indulgence granted by you, either expressly or by course of conduct, shall not alter, affect or prejudice any of your other rights or remedies and shall be effective only in the specific instance and for the purpose for which it was given and shall be deemed not to be a waiver of any of your rights and remedies arising in respect of any other breach of these Terms. No delay or omission by you in exercising any right or remedy hereunder shall operate as a waiver of that or any other right or remedy.

  24. Tax:

    1. Any federal and/or provincial tax liability for any taxes (including but not limited to personal income tax) arising from the accrual (including where permitted, consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer of Points) or redemption of Points or the receipt of a Reward is my responsibility. I understand that you will not issue tax receipts. If I redeem Points for a Charity Reward, it is the responsibility of the registered charitable organization to issue any tax receipt.

  25. Changing the Program and these Terms:

    1. You may change the Program and these Terms at any time without giving me notice. Program changes may include, but are not limited to (i) changes to any Reward(s), (ii) changes to the Points required to be redeemed for any Reward, or (iii) changes to the formula upon which Points are earned.

  26. Termination:

    1. You may suspend or terminate the Program at any time upon a ninety (90) days notice to me.

    2. Should events beyond your control, such as strikes, acts of God, terrorism, civil disturbance, war or changes in economic or business conditions, materially affect your willingness to continue the Program as it is then constituted, the Program may be suspended or terminated, in whole or in part, and my Points may be cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined, transferred or rolled-up.

    3. You may, without notice, suspend or terminate my membership in the Program, cancel the RBC Rewards Account and my Points upon (i) fraud or abuse by me relating to the Program, (ii) misrepresentation of information to you, (iii) failure by me to follow these Terms, (iv) my personal bankruptcy, or (v) failure by me to earn any Points in any three (3) consecutive years.

    4. If my Account is closed by you for any reason other than a voluntary request from me that you do so, then my Points may be automatically cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined, transferred or rolled-up.

  27. Communications:

    1. So that I do not miss any communication from you about the Program, I will immediately notify you of any changes to my mailing address and other contact information I may have provided to you in connection with the Account. You shall have no liability for any misdirected, lost or delayed mail resulting from my failure to provide you with such notice. You may also communicate with me electronically and any notice or electronic statement of the Account you provide to me, or agreement we make electronically, will be considered to be "in writing", signed and delivered for all purposes.

  28. Interpretation:

    1. All questions or disputes regarding the Program and the interpretation of these Terms will be resolved by you in your sole discretion.

1) Program offered in conjunction with Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Canada ("CWT"). The program is operated and maintained by CWT. All terms, conditions and restrictions applicable to the program are established by CWT.

2) Program offered in conjunction with Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group ("DTAG") Canada Inc. All terms, conditions and restrictions applicable to the program are established by DTAG.

3) Coverage underwritten by RBC General Insurance Company.

4) Coverage underwritten by RBC General Insurance Company in the province of Quebec and by RBC Insurance Company of Canada in the rest of Canada.
